Why raising taxes on the rich isn't a good idea

Dear Mr. Obama,

Please lay off the millionaires and billionaires. In every speech, you paint them as the enemy - as these horrible people who should give away all their money. You act like they are the worst people in the world.

But Mr. Obama, don't you realize that millionaires and billionaires are the only reason most of America have jobs? It takes entrepreneurs to make this country great - to build things.

You recently talked about how America needs to invent things again. But then you punish their success.

What's the point of working hard if you're just going to take away all the benefits for working hard in the first place?

Sincerely,

Cory Watilo

$33 billion isn't going to cut it

Boehner says $33 bln US spending cuts 'not enough'

WASHINGTON, April 4 (Reuters) - House of Representatives Speaker John Boehner said on Monday that a tentative plan to cut $33 billion from the U.S. budget is "not enough" in a sign that negotiators were having trouble reaching a deal to keep the government running beyond a Friday deadline.

"I've made clear that their $33 billion is not enough and many of the cuts that the White House and Senate Democrats are talking about are full of smoke and mirrors. That's unacceptable," Boehner, the top Republican in Congress, said in a statement.

Boehner is right. Cutting $33 billion from the budget really isn't going to do much in terms of balancing the budget and reducing our national debt. In fact, I've come up with a pie chart demonstrating that. Below, you'll see the impact (or lack thereof) that cutting $33 billion from the budget will do to the deficit (assuming the current $14,273,445,000,000 figure from usdebtclock.org).

The $33 billion in cuts that the democrats are suggesting would reduce the deficit by only 0.02%.

Nice try Dems, but you're going to need to do a little better.
